The best child-friendly apartments
Apartments and villas aren’t just cheaper than hotels, they also tend to be a lot more practical when you have a baby or kids. But how to find the best child-friendly apartments?

If you want to make sure they’re really child-friendly, there’s always the internet, and the chance to do your own research as well as reading real people’s reviews – but best of all is finding child-friendly apartments where someone else has done the work in checking them out.
These are my pick if you’re looking for family friendly apartments, including ones if you’re staying with a baby or a toddler.
PlumGuide
Like AirBNB, but with added vetting – every property on the PlumGuide site is hand-picked, and you can filter further by those which are suitable if you’re travelling with infants under one (as well as with kids in general).
What I particularly like is that it picks out other potential issues to be aware of: for example, rather than just letting you know there’s a kitchen, it goes into detail about whether you can realistically self-cater/whether the cupboards are stocked, or if the WiFi is fast enough to do more than send a very basic email.
i-escape Kids
I always loved i-escape pre-baby for its selection of hotels – quirky, boutique, always a bit gorgeous like you’d uncovered something special. And the kids’ collection is just as good.
It’s not just hotels either, as there’s family villas and city apartments too, and helpfully you can refine by age groups (babies, toddlers, children aged four to 12 and teens) as well as by price and location.
Baby-friendly Boltholes
Does what it says on the tin. Everything on the Baby Friendly Boltholes site is baby-friendly, including baby-friendly apartments, so it’s a great place to start when you’re travelling as a new parent – apart from anything, to reassure you that it’s possible!
The emphasis is on the luxury side, although there are regular offers, so if Mauritius or Oman are in your sights (along with Europe and the UK), this is worth a visit.
AirBNB
It’s only since being a mum that I really got into AirBNB. You’ll have to search carefully to whittle down the child-friendly properties (even search terms like ‘cot’ and ‘highchair’ might bring up ones pointing out they don’t have a cot, which is frustrating) but there’s a huge range and you can find some real gems.
Best of all, if you’re staying in a family home, you may have toys and other paraphernalia as well as lots of space.

Edit – TotsToTravel, one of my top picks (and the company we used for our stay in Gran Canaria ) has sadly closed, as has Kid and Coe
