Seven places to eat in Copenhagen with kids
Noma put Copenhagen firmly on the map for foodies, repeatedly named the best restaurant in the world – but while you could take your kids along there with you, that’s far from the only option if you’re looking for the best places to eat in Copenhagen with kids.
From classic Scandinavian to child-friendly burgers, I’ve picked out seven great markets and restaurants in Copenhagen for families, which are also a lot more budget-friendly than a Michelin-starred restaurant!
From street food to quirky places to eat in the Danish capital, these are my top tips for Copenhagen food with kids.

Copenhagen food markets with kids
Torvehallerne food market
With stall after stall of food and handy tables dotted around Copenhagen’s main market, you can graze on everything from traditional smorrebrod and pastries to sushi and chocolate plus wine and coffee for the grown-ups at Torvehallerne food market.
Don’t miss the kanel snegle, or cinnamon snails (calling them cinnamon rolls simply doesn’t have the same ring).

Reffen
Reffen’s street food market is home to more than 50 start ups with a focus on sustainability, organic food and reducing waste, all with waterside views.
There’s an old machine hall for the colder months when eating outside isn’t quite so tempting and the hop-on hop-off bus drops you nearby. For the latest line-up, check out Reffen’s website.
Family friendly restaurants in Copenhagen
Cocks & Cows
Long communal tables where as many hip 20-something Danes as family groups hang out, Cocks and Cows is perfect for sophisticated kids and teens.
With burger after burger (and more than a few cocktails), the menu’s going to appeal to pretty much everyone. Portions are enormous, even if you have the Classic Cow rather than the Governator, and babies are made just as welcome as their big siblings.
Sporvejen
Another great burger joint, Sporvejen is set in a restaurant fitted out like an old-fashioned tram, dinging bell and all.
The menu has a few unusual twists too, including a curry burger with caviar and a garlic burger with clams. If you miss out on one of coveted inside booths, there’s tables on the square outside (and extra blankets to borrow).
Hooked
Hooked bills itself as casual seafood so you can expect fish and chips for kids, as well as poke bowls and fish burgers if you fancy something a bit different.
There’s a kid’s menu too, and eight different locations around Copenhagen, including the city centre and Norrebro.
More places to eat in Copenhagen with kids
Den Økologiske Pølsemand
The Danes love a hotdog – and that means they take them very seriously. And Døp, has been voted Copenhagen’s best thanks to organic ingredients and sourdough bread, as well as quirky choices like goat sausages.
Even the packaging is environmentally friendly. You can track him down near the Round Tower and the Church of the Holy Ghost, open to 6.30pm.
Seaside Toldboden
This harbourfront collection of places to eat, Seaside Toldboden is a short walk from the Little Mermaid so perfect for a post-photo pick-me-up, taking over from the previous Toldboden restaurant.
Perfect for families, as there’s something for everyone, the seven different independent kitchens provide everything from pasta and smorrebrod to Japanese gyoza, Argentinian tapas and lobster rolls, with plenty of veggie dishes, fresh fish and seasonal ingredients.
Sister Restaurant Julian, formerly in the National Museum, which had menus inspired by the museum’s exhibitions, has also now closed but Restaurant Karla nearby has child-friendly Danish dishes on the menu

I’m planning a family trip to Copenhagen but it’s great to read your recommendations. Thankfully my brood are none too fussy.
Have a great time – I loved the city, so good with kids as well. And hurrah for non-fussy children as well.
Even though I”m not a kid, I would fall into the category of being as picky of an eater as a kid sometimes! I’m getting better and braver to try new foods but I hate spending money to find out I don’t like something. But once I find something I like, I can’t get enough of it haha #CityTripping
Well, you can’t go too far wrong with a great burger 🙂 The food market is good for trying a bit of something though as well.
Great suggestion. We stayed in the hotel above cocks and cows and loved their burgers.
We also enjoyed street food on Paper island. Something for everyone’s taste and a fun boat ride to get there
Thanks! Mmmm am now wishing I had a burger tonight.
Such a great list of suggestions – meal times are becoming the biggest hassle part of travelling for us now, great to knwo where you’ll be accepted and where the kids might actually eat more than a bowl of chips
Thanks! Yes, between one thing and another, just getting food into kids can turn into a bit of a stressful event – my daughter turns picky eating into an art form these days as well.
Oh they all look gorgeous! I’ve not been before but it’s on my list to go to!
Thanks! Such a lovely city.
I’d love to visit it! the food looks great! #city tripping
It’s a lovely city – probably not quite as expensive as your previous jaunt to Scandinavia either.
This all sounds delicious with or without kids. I love the name Cocks & Cows and always enjoy eating in markets.
I think so – I did more eating at the market than my daughter certainly. And Cocks & Cows does always raise a grin for me.
I went on a hen do to Copenhagen (yep, a different venue!) and I absolutely loved the place, so beautiful and I loved the food. These are great places to mention, and I love the look of the Sporvejen. #citytripping
I bet that was fun! And thanks – am already thinking I should go back again…
We love burgers and the curry burger sounds so unusually. I’d definitely have to try it though. I absolutely love food markets, I just keep eating non stop. That one would be a bit terrible for my waistline 🙂
Luckily there’s lots to walk around and see afterwards – although I may have had more cinammon snails than you can burn off wandering to the little mermaid…
Great suggestions. Copenhagen is such a great city with lots of food options – good to know where is good with the little ones. Wish we had found the market – sounds very tasty.
Thanks! And next time for the market, definitely one of my favourites.
Restaurant Julian sounds really interesting. I love how they theme their food with current exhibits. 🙂
It’s a really fun idea isn’t it – definitely more interesting than the standard museum cafe.
I wish I had this list when we were in Copenhagen! We found lots of good places, but all these look delicious. We liked heading over to the market though and picking up stuff for a picnic, since we had such nice weather. Hopefully we will be back though and I can give a few of these a try. #CityTripping
I do love wandering around markets picking up food, and great if it’s picnic weather – hope you get back before too long though.
I would love the Torvehallerne food market. It seems like such an interesting place. #citytripping
I always find markets really fascinating when I’m visiting somewhere – such a little taste of local life.
Copenhagen is near the top of my “to-visit” list, and I’ve been doing some research recently. Looks like I don’t have to worry about food there. Restaurant Julian sounds like the place for me! #citytripping
It’s a lovely city – the museum is great too while you’re eating at Restaurant Julian 🙂
Looks worth going just for the food!
#citytripping
I can definitely imagine making a visit just for Noma (although perhaps not with my daughter!)
Wow, the Julian sounds great. I don’t think I’ve come across any restaurants where the food is inspired by the current exhibitions. Such a cool idea. Dying to go to Copenhagen. #citytripping
It’s clever isn’t it – but it made me wonder why no other museum restaurants had thought of that. Loved our trip, I hope you get there.
So many great suggestions here Cathy, I feel hungry just thinking about them all.
Thanks! I am hankering after some more smorrebrod myself now.
FOOD! Awww.. I was expecting to see pictures of indoor playgrounds, colouring sheets, magicians and what nots after reading your title. It seems like Europe hasn’t caught up in making Kids-Friendly Restaurants as well as Asia. My recent trip to Taipei saw us to so many different eateries that cater to kids play while adults dine! Indoor playgrounds are the biggest hit there and it was just impossible to visit every single one. #CityTripping
Haha, no just the essentials 🙂 My daughter was a bit young for colouring at the time, so I don’t know how many might have had that, but definitely no magicians. I can imagine that’s a lot of fun but sometimes it’s knowing that you’ll be welcome and there’s something kids will eat (everywhere in Denmark seemed to have high chairs which was a bonus)
Everything looks so delicious ! I’ve been to Copenhagen but I was still a poor student at that time I think and I don’t remember eating particularly well 😀
It was! But I still find Scandinavia pricy today so I can imagine how tricky it would be as a student.
Oh it’s been ages since I have been to Copenhagen – I just love that city. I think we must pay another visit with the kids in tow! Great post, always good to find kid friendly places in the city – that might suit my two fussy eaters!
It’s a brilliant place for families- and thanks!
Ooh I have pinned we may be going later in the year, I am so looking forward to it, we are going for the Christmas Markets so it should be fab. There looks to be loads of choice and the whole family will be happy. Our boys love different dining experiences and trying out local food so these restaurants are perfect for us, thanks Cathy great post x
Have a fantastic time. I can imagine it’s amazing at Christmas- we were just a bit early.
Oh these places seem very yummy to me even without kids 😉 Especially the food market (I have a particularl love for food markets!)!!
xx
Umberta
Oh definitely- and I loved the food market. Mmmmmmmm.
I went to Copenhagen when I was 16 with a school trip, I’ve never been back but would love to go. Hopefully one day!! Thanks for hosting #citytripping xx
What a cool school trip! I hope you do get back there – such a lovely city.
I’d love to go to Copenhagen, it’s one of my must-sees. Cock and Cows sounds right up my street! I adore burgers and cocktails. I’ll certainly be ready for them next year! Thanks for hosting #citytripping
You’d love it there- and burgers and cocktails are always a bit of a winning combination! Thanks for linking.
