Reviewed: Buggysnuggle universal buggy footmuff

As ever, I ended up packing a few things for our trip to Copenhagen that I didn’t need – but I’m very glad I made one new purchase before travelling: a Buggysnuggle universal buggy footmuff.

I’d been weighing up whether to take the Bugaboo, as it reclined for naps on the go and has a lovely fleecy footmuff to keep Minnie warm – or whether to take our ‘travel’ pushchair, the Maclaren Volo, which is lovely and lightweight, but doesn’t recline.

While I love the Volo’s hood for keeping the sun off her on some of our more sunshiney holidays, I’ve never really tested it in cold weather. And without any kind of liner, I was worried she’d be (a) not warm enough and (b) therefore not sleep in it.

Having (inevitably) left it almost to the last minute, I needed to track down a universal footmuff that would fit the Maclaren quickly. Looking at some of the reviews, it seems some fit on but instantly start slipping around, while others mean practically dismantling the straps to get it fitted.

Then I stumbled across the Buggysnuggle. It’s not the cheapest option, sadly, but it does promise to fit 99% of buggies (and they only shy away from saying 100% because that’s asking for someone to prove them wrong). 

And I can see why it would work. There are straps to tie around the handles, which work nicely if you’ve got two grips, or you can simply slip the top of the footmuff over the top of the seat, under or between a hood.

There are various slits for the straps, which just pull through and then are velcro-ed shut, plus a few cute extras like a pocket for toys on the front and the ability to unzip the footmuff at the bottom to let muddy feet stick out. It also unzips in half if you want to use it just as a liner.

All beautifully easy. I doubt it took me five minutes to get mine on and attached.

Lastly, the material is lovely and fleecy – as snuggly as the name would suggest. After some initial vexation at being zipped into a bag, Minnie decided this cosy bag was a winner and dozed off happily, sleeping like a, well, baby.

There’s a whole array of different designs, from the basic and cheapest dark colours to funkier (and more expensive) animal prints and furry finishes.

I settled for something in the middle with a brightly coloured spot version, which went well with the red of the buggy, and entertained Minnie who prodded and pressed on the circles between naps.

And after taking all that Copenhagen (and Minnie) could throw at it, it’s also machine washable.
