Review: Munchkin grippy dots for the bath
How times have changed. Once, I’d spend the weeks before my winter sun holiday thinking about pedicures, spray tans and waxing. Now the only thing I’m pondering about in the bathroom is… how to stop Minnie slipping over in our villa’s bath.
Up until now we’ve managed with baby baths, the occasional shower and extra helpers to stop her slipping.

As she’s more mobile than ever and sees the cleaning bit of her nightly bath as an annoyance to endure before she slithers around playing with her bath toys, something to keep her upright is a new packing essential.
I’m hardly going to put a bath mat into my suitcase though, even if we have freed up all that nappy space thanks to potty training.
But then a friend produced these rather cunning Munchkin grippy dots for the bath, like circular pieces of bath mat which will slot into a bathroom bag.
There’s six in different colours in the set, although if you’re really pushed for space, you could take fewer.
Minnie insisted we spend 10 minutes sticking them to the sink and running water over them, comparing the slipperiness of the ceramic with the surface of the dots, so frankly if I don’t use them much as travel kit, they’ll make a good toy.
The suction pads stuck firmly and there’s also a temperature hotspot on one dot, although I’m always wary of relying on these on products – mostly because they’re oversensitive.
After we’d started using them, the heat sensor fairly quickly gave up and stopped working – I’d stick to using a bath thermometer for littler kids rather than relying on this but it works just as well as a dot.
And while I’m not sure how she’d have managed when she was younger and more wobbly, for older toddlers, they’re a great solution for visiting friends or grandparents as well as travelling.

EDIT: Five years on, we were still using these Munchkin grippy dots. My daughter might be a lot less wobbly on her feet, but slippy baths are still slippy however old you are, and it’s rare to find any kind of bath mat in hotels or self-catering apartments, so these have been accompanying us around the world for years. Not bad for a bargain product.
