Winning the best family travel blogger title

I am beaming. Grinning. I would probably still be doing a happy dance if I wasn’t so tired after yesterday’s fantastic Britmums Live blogging conference in London – because the winner of the Brilliance in Blogging award for family travel was… me!

The best family travel blog in the UK... My award for winning the Brilliance in Blogging awards for family travel at Britmums

From a blog which started out of a stubborn determination to prove I could keep travelling after having a baby, I couldn’t have imagined what the years would bring, from the opportunities we’ve had to finding myself appearing on video, let alone standing up on stage accepting an award.

I am hugely grateful for all of it, and especially for every single reader who visits MummyTravels. I couldn’t have done it without you, so an equally huge thank you to everyone reading and anyone who voted any time I’ve been shortlisted.

Drum roll… and me collecting my award!

As I said in my slightly trembly thank-you speech, family travel is one of the loveliest blogging categories to be part of.

There are some wonderful bloggers out there, many of whom I now count as friends, all showing that you can travel with kids – whatever age, at home or abroad (even if it’s not always entirely smooth sailing).

And it was lovely to catch up with some of them yesterday too – my fellow finalists Claire from Tinbox Traveller and Karen from MiniTravellers, my City Tripping linky co-host Elizabeth from Wandermum who came along with her gorgeous month-old baby, and Lisa from Travel Loving Family who took the video, to mention just a few (and sorry not to list everyone!).

My favourites get shared on the blog’s Facebook page if you fancy any more reading and inspiration.

All along with plenty of inspiration for me too from the sessions on the day – that email newsletter I’ve been pondering might finally happen, and Facebook Live is firmly on my To Do list.

I even took part in one of the panels, talking about my experiences as a travel journalist as well as blogger (this photo taken by Claire).

Which is probably enough excitement for one weekend. I am looking forward to what the next year will bring – hope you’ll come along for the journey too.

  1. Congratulations again Cathy! It looks like you’ve found the perfect spot for your well deserved award and I hope you chill the bubbly before opening it…not like the slightly less classy after party drinks 🙂 x

    1. Thank you! And the award is definitely not being hidden away in a toilet – it was lovely to celebrate with you (all) afterwards, and we did avoid bottle swigging in the end 😉

    1. I’m so glad Lisa took it – I didn’t even notice, that’s how overwhelmed I was! It was a great event, as ever, and lovely to get a chance for a catch-up with you too – definitely need to plan another one in.

    1. Thanks! And I’m not quite sure – possible a short lie-down first (or catching up on all those blog posts)

    1. Thank you! I do love a chance to dress up (the fluffy shrug only seems to come out for awards ceremonies!) – it’s lovely to be able to watch the video myself, I felt quite overwhelmed so good to see what I actually did/said! 🙂

  2. Congratulations, Cathy!! I’ve been reading your blog since you launched it all those years ago (I think I only had one child back then) and it’s lovely to see you being recognised xxx

    1. Thank you! Wow, amazing to think that’s a different country and a whole person ago. And that’s so lovely to hear. Although I’m over the moon at winning, for me nothing beats hearing from people who read the blog – especially such long-standing readers too. Xxx

  3. Congratulations Cathy, well done! I’m really happy for you…looking forward to read about your upcoming plans and activities as a travel blogger and writer 🙂

    Hugs from Malaysia,
    Kat

  4. So well deserved Cathy! You’re an inspiration! Fab to catch up in person again. I owe you lunch xx

    1. Thank you! It was so lovely to see you again as well – and yes, we must get our lunch sorted…
