Cut-price in Corfu
The temperatures have dropped, the clocks are about to go back and winter is around the corner – depressed yet? But there’s one ray of light (apart from the fact I’m really quite fond of Autumn as a season) as half-term holidays are cheaper this October than they were a year ago.
The cost of a getaway to 10 of the top family holiday destinations by M&S Bank discovered that Greece is the most affordable, saving an average of £59 per person on a holiday to Corfu thanks to better exchange rates against the Euro.
And in second place, a trip to France, including a day pass to Disneyland Paris, saw the second largest price drop with costs down by £49, although overall you can get a less expensive break in Spain, Turkey, Tenerife and Portugal than hopping across the Channel.
If you want to keep costs down even more, Gill Roberts, Head of Travel Money at M&S Bank, has these tips:
1. Do some research to find out whether tickets for the activities you are planning are cheaper if bought in advance.
2. Don’t rely on internet rates if buying in-store – many providers have different rates online and some change their rate throughout the day.
3. Don’t leave your holiday money until the last minute – airport bureaux often offer less competitive rates and may not have a wide variety of note denominations.
