The art of booking a holiday
We dream about them for weeks or months, and sometimes take as long to book them as we spend on the holiday. But all that planning appears to be paying off as it seems consumers are getting savvier.
Six in 10 of us have changed when we book holidays over the past year to take advantage of cheaper deals and greater availability, according to new research from ABTA, with a third booking further in advance and a quarter waiting until closer to departure.
And the majority of those leaving it to the last minute said it was because they thought they could get a bargain this way, including families with children under five – although parents with older children still at home were more likely to book in advance in order to get free child places.
But we’re no longer going DIY to get the deals, with more people booking package holidays this year than last – over half of 35 to 44-year-olds compared to just over a third in 2011.
