Forget exploring on holiday – we’re too skint and scared

Posted by mummytravels

If travel is supposed to broaden the mind, it seems only a quarter of us are taking advantage of this when we head off on holiday.

Nearly a quarter of Brits only venture up to four miles from their resort, with three quarters of those sticking to the beach, and local bars and restaurants, according to the survey from Budget. And over 70% admitted they’d like to see more of the country they’re visiting but money and lack of confidence are putting them off.

Travel – it makes you happy!

Nearly a third said spending extra on top of an all-inclusive package meant they decided not to venture further afield, while a similar number were nervous about getting lost. A quarter fretted that they wouldn’t be able to communicate or that they wouldn’t be able to drive around, and a fifth said they didn’t head out sightseeing as they didn’t know the best places to go.

But to make the holiday sound more action and culture-packed, nearly one in 10 lie to friends and family about what they got up to when they return.

If you need another reason apart from sheer shame and embarrassment, nearly half of those who did leave the resort said they had a more adventurous holiday.

Which probably comes as no real surprise to anyone…
