A pregnancy pick-me-up

Posted by mummytravels

I’ve been trying to focus all the posts on the blog on travel and children so far, so as I officially reach full term status in my pregnancy today, I’m going to reward myself by talking about something a bit more tenuous.

I’ve generally enjoyed pregnancy – and have been lucky to have a smooth one – but at 37 weeks, there’s no doubt it can be tiring and frustrating. Slow waddling has replaced walking, I’m recycling the same half dozen outfits as I no longer fit into anything else, and my feet have puffed up too much to wear almost any of my shoes (bar one pair of trainers and the FitFlops).

My favourite rings are out, courtesy of swollen fingers, travel is reduced to reading through my backlog of National Geographic Traveller and Lonely Planet magazines, or watching the planes pass by my window under the Heathrow flight path.

Throw in some very bad nights’ sleep (today, a 4.20am awakening) and I’m positively on the verge of being grumpy. I can’t even have a drink to cheer myself up. Well, not an exciting one anyway.

So I’m brightening up my day with one of the last few late pregnancy-friendly mood boosters I’ve got – make-up. Specifically Max Factor Colour Elixir lipstick, £7.99, in a couple of bright summery shades (Pink Brandy and Bewitching Coral) and MAC Lipglass in Lychee, £13.

And if you do insist on a travel angle? Well, they’re nice and easy to pack…
